Jeff Lyons is a
Calgary,
Canada based self taught, full time visual
artist and oil painter. He has also resided in Halifax, Canada.
Jeff started cartooning comic strips in 1973 at age 8 and painting in 1987. His earliest paintings were mainly realistic or impressionistic in nature. Jeff dabbled in oil, acrylic, oil pastel, pencil and ink and pencil crayon mediums. He began displaying and selling his artwork in 1996 and made it a full-time creative pursuit in 2003.
He has sold his oil paintings online since July 1999.
In 1996 Jeff began exploring his darker, quirkier side with ambiguous paintings. He wanted to express strange, playful, slightly unsettling images; a way to balance his rational and irrational thinking. This imagery is a fusion of cartoon, surreal, symbolic and abstract art styles that Jeff has previously explored in his past.
Inspired by women, Jeff began painting female portraiture in 2000. An art series evolved, which later became known as the
girlfriends series. Jeff's main goal was to create alluring imagery that attracted and interacted with the viewer.
The women are manifestations of beauty and persona. Each one loves you back.
This series led to public demand for custom portrait
work of all people. Men, women, children and couples. This has kept Jeff busy for many years.
He portrays people with liveliness and joy. They are fun, stylish,
flattering representations.
